CSOs AGITATES FOR AN END TO INCESSANT KILLINGS IN IMO, CALLS ON ICC TO INVESTIGATE SPONSORS OF VIOLENCE

Image
The recent wave of killings and property devastation in Imo State is disturbing, reprehensible, and necessitates a forceful and determined reaction. The terrifying atmosphere of terror unleashed by unknown gunmen on the one hand, and what appear to be state-sponsored attacks on the other, has turned Imo into a killing field. We deplore the pervasiveness of violence, heinous attacks, and the deaths that occur. Imo State, which was previously calm, has continued to suffer targeted assassinations and politically motivated attacks, leaving the people at the mercy of death merchants. It should be noted that as civil society organizations, we are gathering verifiable information and witnesses to support our appeal to the United Nations (UN) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), particularly regarding politically motivated violence in Imo State. Our goal is to bring individuals or groups who use violence and other non-cultural ways to obtain or keep power to justice, no matter how ...

Hon. Osaro Onaiwu Jnr. Congratulates the Benin Monarch on the Successful Repatriation, Ownership, Custody and Management of Benin Artifacts

Image
I congratulate the Reverenced Benin Monarch on it's accomplishment in the fight to reclaim our lost artifacts.  It was with great pride and a deep sense of fulfillment that I had received the news of the Federal Government's issuance of a gazette recognizing ownership and vesting custody and management of repatriated Benin Artifacts to the Oba of Benin.  It is a great time in our collective history, that the  repatriation of our artifacts that began many years ago has now been brought to a successful conclusion under the reign of Oba Eware II.  I most specifically commend the minister of information, culture and tourism Lia Mohammed. I thank the crowned Prince of Benin Kingdom,  Prince Ezelekhae Ewuare,  Edos in diaspora and also very importantly,  the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki.  To our amiable Oba; May your reign last long. May the Benin Kingdom flow with prosperity and peace.  Our history cannot b...

JOY OSARO-ONAIWU FOUNDATION SYMPATHIZE WITH FAMILY OF 31 YEARS OLD MALE WHO WAS TORTURED TO DEATH IN POLICE CUSTODY IN NYANYA, ABUJA

Image
It was with great sadness we received the report of a widow who narrated her ordeal on Human Rights Radio, Abuja, precisely on the18th of April 2023. It was an unfortunate story  where her 31 year old son Erasmus, who was arrested, detained and several tortured to death by officers of the Nigerian Police Force, at the Police station in Nyanya, Abuja. While we sympathize with the widow for her irreplaceable loss, we're calling on all Nigerians of good  conscience and relevant authorities to throw their weight behind this case, to ensure proper investigation into the death of Erasmus. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Imagine the pain of a mother, loosing her full grown son under such devastating condition. A son she had bore, trained and nutured for 31 years, dying at his prime of life owing to evil acts of some monstrous police office who would stop at nothing to perpetrate evil. A simple case of the supposed defenders of the rule of law now subvertin...

OSARO-ONAIWU JNR CONGRATULATES GODWIN OBASEKI AND THE ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

Image
I would like to congratulate Edo State Executive Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Edo PDP leadership, and the newly elected members of the Edo House of Assembly on their victory in the main and supplementary elections. Despite the unsettling and complicated political makeup of Edo State, our party succeeded by winning the necessary majority, protecting our state from unnecessary diversions from chaos mongers. These results speak for themselves, and they are a vote of confidence in the leadership of our great party, led by the affable Governor. I sincerely applaud the excellent people of Edo State for not succumbing to the intrigues of propagandists and for their faith in the PDP. I'd like to use this medium to urge new members elect, of whom I believe to be people of high character and conscience, not to be sidetracked by election victories and instead to focus squarely on excellent representation and good governance for the sake of our beautiful state and people. The Governor's de...

NATIONAL COORDINATOR OF CONFLICT SOLUTION ADVOCACY; OSARO ONAIWU JNR. CALLS FOR PROPER CONDUCT AND SECURITY IN THE 2023 SUPPLEMENTARY ELECTIONS.

Image
The supplementary constituency elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, 15th April, 2023 is another chance to redeem our democratic image and restore Nigerians confidence in the electoral process. We wish to put the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Economic and Financial Crimes Comission (EFCC), Police Service Commission (PSC) under  the leadership of Solomon Arase and the Nigerian Military on notice to discharge their constitutional duty of shephering our democratic process of choosing leaders as prescribed by the constitution uninterrupted. The fallout of the last election in some constituencies across Nigeria which was characterised by vote buying, voters intimidation, mutilation of original results and what appeared to be connivance of some security personnel with politicians to manipulate the electoral process remained highly condemned. This unconscionable and unscrupulous acts did not only put a stain in our nations de...

HON.OSARO-ONAIWU JNR CONGRATULATES BAYELSA STATE GOVERNOR SENATOR DOUYE DIRI FOR CLINCHING THE PARTY'S GUBERNATORIAL TICKET AT THE JUST CONCLUDED PRIMARIES.

Image
In a statement personally signed by him Hon. Osaro-Onaiwu Jnr congratulated the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa Senator Duoye Diri for picking the party’s Governorship ticket unchallenged. The Edo born PDP Stalwart stated, "The PDP delegates and members uninanimously supported Governor Douye Diri's  second term ambition  because of his sterling performance in office and this trust in his capacity is nothing but remarkable". Hon. Osaro-Onaiwu Jnr made it clear that the offer of first refusal can only be given by party members to an incumbent when it is evident enough that the incumbent in question has performed beyond reasonable doubt. I have know doubt that the general election in Bayelsa in few months time will be won by the PDP because, the good people of Bayelsa will surely reward the PDP with a resounding victory at the polls because of the party’s performance and popularity in the State. He concluded!!

PRESS RELEASE NATIONAL COALITION OF OGUN STATE VOTERS (NCOSV) CALLS ON ABDULRASHEED BAWA AND MATTHEW URHOGHIDE TO INVESTIGATE THE RESIDENT ELECTORAL COMISSIONER (REC) IN OGUN STATE; OLANIYI IJALAYE.

Image
We write to express our profound displeasure on this obvious rape of our democratic mandate, as perpetrated against the good people of Ogun State in the just concluded governorship election. We had hoped that the electoral commission would do the needed arithmetic to enable them understand that the total number of votes in units that were cancelled is greater than the margin between the supposed winner and the runner-up. Thus rendering the elections inconclusive. This principle of margin of lead is established explicitly in the electoral act. Similar scenarios in other states and legal precedents abound, but all of those were jettisoned.  To watch the certificate of return handed over to a winner in an inconclusive election is gross injustice to the voters of Ogun State. We have in good authority, preponderance of evidence to show that there was wide disparity between the results recorded at the polling units and those announced at the coalition centres. We stand to to say th...
