JOY OSARO-ONAIWU FOUNDATION SYMPATHIZE WITH FAMILY OF 31 YEARS OLD MALE WHO WAS TORTURED TO DEATH IN POLICE CUSTODY IN NYANYA, ABUJA

It was with great sadness we received the report of a widow who narrated her ordeal on Human Rights Radio, Abuja, precisely on the18th of April 2023. It was an unfortunate story  where her 31 year old son Erasmus, who was arrested, detained and several tortured to death by officers of the Nigerian Police Force, at the Police station in Nyanya, Abuja.

While we sympathize with the widow for her irreplaceable loss, we're calling on all Nigerians of good  conscience and relevant authorities to throw their weight behind this case, to ensure proper investigation into the death of Erasmus.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Imagine the pain of a mother, loosing her full grown son under such devastating condition. A son she had bore, trained and nutured for 31 years, dying at his prime of life owing to evil acts of some monstrous police office who would stop at nothing to perpetrate evil. A simple case of the supposed defenders of the rule of law now subverting due process.

Incidence of this nature are not new in our clime, as other past similar cases abound. And today we stand to say that the death of Erasmus cannot be swept under the carpet.

To this end, we are appealing to the new leadership of the police service commission and the Inspector General of Police, to conduct extensive investigation into this case to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to book.

While we wait for an official police report and a proposed intervention, we urge angry Nigerians to remain calm and not take laws into their hands.
