COALITION OF CSOs WARNS PRESIDENT ELECT TO ABSTAIN FROM NASS LEADERSHIP TUSSLE/ELECTION

In a press briefing that held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, the Executive Director of Centre For strategy Ethics and Value,  Romanus Azubuike ugwu after a consultative meeting with a coalition of NGOs and CSOs addressed the press where he explicitly spoke on the need to have an independent NASS that will have the capacity to carry out oversight functions and checkmate the excesses of the other arms of Government, Ministries, Department and Agencies. Noting clearly, that an independent parliament begins with independent leadership.

"The doctrine of separation of powers is an integral component of a virile and functioning democracy. Over the last two decades, Nigerians have suffered excessively from the action and inactions of what can be best described as a "rubber stamp assembly". This had reduced the parliament to a muffled voice incapable of representing of the yearnings and aspirations of their constituents, a parliament that mortgaged the future of the Nigerian people,  while colluding with other agencies/parastatals of government to rob Nigerians of their collective patrimony.

And now with the emergence of Ahmed Bola Tinubu as President Elect, the APC is now poised at decimating what is left of the NASS by foisting upon it a bunch of cronies/surrogates to server as leaders of the 10th assembly.

The fact that the APC would not only zone the offices, but will do so in a skewed and awkward manner, bluntly ignoring a significant geopolitical zone points clearly to their underlying desperation to hatch this heinous plan.

Beyond this, they have proceeded to naming names of anointed candidates, some of whom are widely known as butt-lickers and candidates of corruption.

We must rise to the occasion and resist every attempt of the President Elect, hiding under the guise of party leadership to sabotage the integrity and independence of the 10th assembly even before it begins.

All men of good conscience, desirous of a sustainable democracy must take a stand against these saboteurs.

Nigerians have suffered humongously under the weak leadership of the 9th Assembly. Poverty, unemployment, inflation and insecurity has multiplied the pains of the common man. While Stupendous sums of money has been borrowed and frivolously spent.

We've met today, we've discussed and we'll do all we can while we can to fight against this illegality. This is just the first of our many proposed line of actions". He said.

Hon.Shedrach Udugbai.
