Yuletide season: THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS RECEIVE CHICKENS, BAGS OF RICE FROM EDO SSG
Ahead of Christmas, thousands of residents have gathered at the residence of Barrister Osarodion Ogie to benefit from his annual distribution of chickens, bags of rice and other food items.
Ogie, the Secretary to Edo State Government, is seen by many as a philanthropist following his usual magnanimity and show of kindness to people.
The first phase of the distribution was said to have commenced on Wednesday.
At press time on Saturday, 24th of December, it was discovered that many residents from Ikpoba Hill axis, Evbuotubu, Ugbiyokho, St. Saviour and Upper Sakponba thronged in their number to receive their christmas packages.
The development however caused traffic snarls in the area leading motorists to take alternative routes.
The leadership of Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration, Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR) who has been following the activities of the SSG said the number which turned in this year tripled the previous years.
The Executive Director of the initiative, Mr. Solomon Okoduwa who was amazed by the crowd, said despite the multitude, the environment was peaceful and cordial.
According to him, the people are excitedly waiting for their turns. This is the second phase of the exercise. The SSG has been consistent towards showing kindness to his people in and out of season."
A beneficiary who does not want his name appear on print described Barrister Ogie as a man of the people.
He said, "Is Osarodion Ogie the only politician in Edo State? Others are at home enjoying only with their family and friends. We will continuously respect and loyal to him."
He continued, "The next election is not going to be based on who you are or party. If you are good to me, I will be good to you on election day. You can't be giving things out on election day and wait next election. We know those that bless us. Some think we are here because of PDP; it is not true. We are here because of Ogie, he is our father and our leader."
"For us it is a way of finishing the year strong with human feeling being expressed and demonstrated by the man who knows how to feed his people and show love to all."
The beneficiaries include men and women, nursing mothers across party affiliations.
