Ekpoma Eminent Stakeholders Forum Canvasses for a better Ekpoma

A community development Organization based in Ekpoma, The Concerned Ekpoma Eminent Stakeholders Forum (CEESF) has canvassed for a better Ekpoma community with befitting infrastructures, social amenities and quality service delivery.

This form part of it’s resolutions in it’s last general meeting in Ekpoma Town Hall. The resolutions signed by its convener, Dr Jude Obasanmi and Secretary, Mr Lawrence Isiraojie stressed the need for all Stakeholders to synergize to attract the needed development to Ekpoma and to compel Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to ensure quality service delivery to Ekpoma residence, most especially Urohi community that has been defenestrated to abject darkness for months.

The resolutions reads:

Resolutions at the End of Concerned Ekpoma Eminent Stakeholders Forum (CEESF) Regular meeting held on  Thursday 10th October, 2019, at Ekpoma Town Hall.

1. Issue of Late Prof. Ambrose Alli Memorial Day Celebrations. The house commended the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for keeping faith with his promise to ensure that the annual day is celebrated and recognised. However, the Steering Committee presented their resolution on the issue which was ratified by the house to the extent that CEESF should request government to probe the conduct/activities which surrounded the 2019 Alli Day celebration. The event by all standard according to members fell short of expectations most especially with the manner in which the events were planned, and implemented as well as the utilization of funds provided by state government.
Thus, the Steering Committee was directed to write a protest letter to the Executive Governor of Edo State Gov. Godwin Obaseki and Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye, Speaker, EDHA, on the need for a forensic review of the activities for the 2019 Alli Day celebration as coordinated by the Edo State Local Organising Committee.

2. On BEDC, the house frowned vehemently at the nonchalant attitude of the BEDC management on all pending issues - absence of prepaid meters, estimated billings, faulty transformers, total blackout of some communities like Urohi, low shedding of supply etc. The house resolved to visit BEDC zonal Office at Uromi as well as visit NERC office as per the inability of BEDC to address our letter/lingering light challenges in Ekpoma.

3. Hosting of Esan West LG Political Appointees (Past and Present). The Committee constituted to plan the event was given the go ahead to continue with the arrangement and to put all modalities in place for a successful event. The event was now fixed to hold on 10th  November, 2019 at Ekpoma. Members were urged to contribute towards the success of the event. Also, all those involved where to be contacted.

4. Advocacy Visits to some stakeholders in Ekpoma. The Steering Committee was mandated to identify some stakeholders including his Royal Highness, the Onojie of Ekpoma, Security Agencies, Trade Unions etc on the need to identify with CEESF and its activities.

5) Harassment of Persons by various security agencies. The house unequivocally, condemn any form of criminality and appealed to the security agencies to rather ensure proper prosecution of alleged criminals, rather than extorting money from them and allowing them to continue with their criminality. To this end, it was approved that CEESF visit the security agencies on this matter. Several cases of police harassment and extortions were also highlighted by members.

6) On the suspension of the Esan West LGA Chairman, Hon. Patrick Agueinede. The house reviewed the situation and requested that a political action be taken to address the issue. However, in all considerations, the interest of the commoners should take premium.

7). Road Works in Ekpoma and its environs. The house frowned at the slow pace of construction works in Ekpoma and requested the contractors handling various jobs to speed up the processes now that the dry season was setting in. Roads of great concerns were the Edo central axis of the Benin/ Auchi express way, Ujoelen road, Ihumudumu - Iruekpen Road, Ukpenu to mention but a few.

Thank you.

Comr. Dr. Jude Obasanmi,  Proterm President.

Comr. L.I. Isiraojie, Proterm Secretary.
