Rights Group Advocates Sustained Sensitization Against Gender Discrimination

By Ehis Agugu The Global Women for Quality and Sustainable Development Initiative (GWSD) has encouraged women and girls to cultivate the habit of self esteem. The GWSD Programme Officer, Iyobosa Ahonkhai spoke recently while addressing a cross section of Idia College students in Benin City in commemoration of this year’s International Day Of The Girl Child. She said low self-esteem arises from gender discrimination against the girl child. Ahonkhai noted that the society assigns certain roles and responsibilities to persons based on gender and the girl child is always assigned lesser roles in the society, as a result, she feels inferior to her male counterpart.  While addressing the students, the programme officer explained that “As a girl-child you are capable of more than you know, your gender should not be a limitation to your dream.” With the theme, unscripted and unstoppable as illustration, Ahonkhai pointed out that there is no script dictating the future of anyone...

The members of the general public, particularly candidates who participated in the on-going recruitment exercise by the Nigeria Police Force are hereby advised to note that the final list of successful candidates will be released only after the receipt of the Recruitment Report and final vetting of the list by the Inspector General of Police. Currently, the Inspector General of Police,  IGP Mohammed Adamu NPM, mni, is out of the country on an official assignment and has not received the final report of the exercise containing list of successful candidates for the  Police Constables recruitment. October 18, 2019 Azeezat Adedigba After days of intense negotiations, the federal government of Nigeria and the country’s labour unions have reached a deal on the implementation modality of the new minimum wage. Disagreement over how the new minimum wage law signed by President Muhammadu Buhari in April would be implemented had lingered for months, with organised labour threatening to strike. The Minister for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, disclosed news of the much-awaited agreement early Friday morning in Abuja shortly after a government team he led concluded a meeting with labour. The meeting, which began at 8:24pm Thursday, ended 3am Friday. The disagreement had centred around the consequential adjustments in salaries that must be implemented across board in line with the new minimum wage law. Labour is demanding a 29 per cent salary increase for officers on salary level 07 to 14, and 24 per cent adjustment for officers on salary grade level 15 to 17. But the ...
