The candlelight procession of Gift Alonge, who lost her life in a ghastly motor accident alongside her uncle, Mr. Ukere Adagbogun and two members of BraveHeart Initiative for Youth and Women, Ms. Rhoda Braimoh and Ms. Promise Ezekiel on their way from Igarra to the Court sitting in Benin City was held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, by Coalition of Civil Societies.

A walk in honor of the deceased commenced from the National Museum, Ministry of Justice that terminated at the Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ).

The victim, Gift Alonge suffered countless sexual assault and defilement in the cruel hands of her biological father, one Jacob Alonge that resulted to her first pregnancy in 2017 and was forced to get crude abortion and later got her pregnant before her demise on 16th of January, 2019.

The Coalition of Civil Societies have called called on government to prioritize the rights of children, girls and women in Nigeria. Somebody who pleaded guilty in court does not get away with the offense of impregnating his biological daughter despite the fact that the victim is dead.

Justice for Gift Alonge and zero tolerance to any form of violence against children, youth and women as the accused changed his plea from guilty to not guilty while case comes up on 14th of February 2019 at the Family Court, Evbuoriaria Magistrate Court, Sapele Road, Benin City.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. (Mrs.) Magdalene Ohenhen; Comrade Destiny Enabulele, Chairman, Ovia South West Local Government Area; Rights Activist, Lady Grace Osakue were present at the procession.

Also present is the president emeritus of Conference of Non Governmental Organizations (CONGOs), Comrade Jude Obasanmi; Dr. Bright Oniovo of CiSHAN, Ronke Ojiekere, Executive Director of Society To Heighten Awareness of Women And Children Abuse (SOTHAWAKA) amongst other Civil Society practitioners.
