EDO STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE JOHNSON KOKUMO IS DRIVING ON THE DANGEROUS PART OF ODIUM LIKE HIS PREDECESSOR: THE O/C ANTI ROBBERY SQUAD, SP VICTOR ILEVBARE IS A ROBBER THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED
Upon the removal of CP Haliru Gwandu from Edo State as commissioner of police arising from countless complaints from the mass of the people and the assumption of office by CP Johnson Kokumo, I had promised myself not to come public with him arising from his promise to fight corruption within his command and for the open campaign of “Bail is Free” and that I was going to reach him on any burning issue first before taken other steps.
Unfortunately, the promises made by the CP have turned out to be “political statements” since the callous ways of operation of his officers under his watchful eyes has continued unabated. In fact it seems to have worsened.
As president of the Network of Civil Society Organisation of Nigeria (NOCSON) I have continued to received countless complaints of extortion and demanding with menace by officers and men of the Edo Command. Some of which we have had to intervene with success and on other occasions the victims plead for us to soft pedal as they would rather cry to God.
I personally visited the Police State CID today the 17/03/18 in company of Marxist Kola Edopkayi upon a distress call that five(5) elders of the Iyanomo community including the Odionwere some of which are above 70years have been arrested on the strength of a land matter which the elders have no direct connection with.
Upon our arrival we met with the O/c of Anti Robbery Squad Sp. Victor Ilevbare and the IPO named sgt Andrew and having already obtained statements from the 6elders, we humbly applied for their bail which the O/C obliged and directed his IPO to facilitate the bail so the elders can go home and thereafter he drove off.
In a dramatic turn of event the IPO inform us that his oga said the elders should make N400,000 available before they can be released. We laughed hilariously since it was comical. Our admonition to them that bail is free fell on deaf ears.
However, the elders who are all farmers contributed the sum of N30,000 and gave to the IPO while I went out to pick my phone to call their superiors. When I got back I heard the IPO calling the O/c informing him that the elders are offering N30,000 and that Kola and I were still on ground. The o/c refused the money and said he is coming back to his office.
On his arrival, we met with him to reAffirm our application for bail and he arrogantly told us that N30,000 being offered by the elders is an insult on his office and that unless the elders Part away with N300,000 they will all be detained for the weekend and in the most reckless and callous matter he told us that we can go call the CP if we so wish and that he doesn’t care.
Worst still is that Several calls and text messages to the CP remain unanswered as has been his style in the last few months an indication that he may have been corrupted like his predecessor with the blood money being extorted from Edo people on a daily basis since those who were the hatchet men with garments of corruption retained their positions under his watch. As I write, the elders are being detained inside the cell for their inability to cough out N300,000
With the likes of Sp Victor Ilevbare in the police programmed to rob Edo people, CP Johnson Kokumo must be ready to dance in the market square naked since he is looking the other way and the issues that sent his predecessor packing are still cruising unabated .
What in the first place is the business of the anti robbery squad head by Sp Victor Ilevbare who himself is a robber with issues of land while the dispute resolution section is there. Enough is Enough.
Let me assure Sp Victor Ilevbare, o/c anti robbery squad that no kobo will be parted with before the release of the aged elders and if anything happen to them some having informed him in my presence and as was quite visible that they are ill and on special medication the CP and the O/c will be held responsible.
Now that the O/c have carried insects infested firewood on his head and the Cp is looking the other way, we shall keep tab with the public forthwith to show that things are not different today from the day of Cp Haliru Gwandu.
Edo people must be respected as bail is free.
