Edo Council Chairman brings succor to Primary School pupils

The Executive Chairman of Ovia South West local government area, Comrade Destiny Oghayerio Enabulele on Tuesday brought succor to pupils of Oriakhi Primary School, Iguoriakhi, when he gave desks to pupils who had no desks to sit on at the school.

Before now, some of the pupils of Oriakhi Primary School had been sitting on bare floors in their classrooms, to learn.

However, heavens smiled on them, when Comrade Enabulele who visited several schools the day before, saw their plight, and promised to do something about it.

True to his words, the action Chairman went to Ozolua Primary School, Ora-Siluko, which has unused school desks, locked up in an empty classroom, and arranged to moved them to the school in need of them.

Enabulele said the move was in line with his campaign promise to ensure that school children learn under condusive environment.

"The desks belong to the government, the schools also belong to the government. If one school has more than enough, there is no reason keeping them locked up, while children in the other school sit on bare floors to learn.

"The desks are made of plyboards and they have their life span. You can even see that some of them are already going bad, hence the need to give them out to schools where they are needed. That is how we could be our brother's keeper," he said.

The head teacher of Ozolua Primary School, Ora-Siluko, Mrs. Helen Ojo, praised the brilliant reasoning of the Chairman, just as the Chairman of the Local School-based Management Committee of the community, Elder Sunday Ajayi, lauded the initiative.

The jubilant Head teacher, teachers and pupils of Oriakhi Primary School, Iguoriakhi, who could not contain their feelings, danced and leaped for joy. They thanked the Comrade Enabulele whom they described as "Action Chairman" for his prompt intervention.

"He came here yesterday and saw the children sitting on the bare floors to learn and he promised to do something. Now, we are surprised to see him here today with truckloads of chairs," the head teacher said.

The Vice Chairman, Fred Aimienwanwu, Leader of the Legislative House, Rt. Hon. Robert Ekeme Fiyes JP, Counselor, Ward 6, Hon. Pastor Angela Okpawen and Directors of various Departments of the Council, accompanied the Chairman on the trip.
