Obaseki orders Police investigation into death of Miss Omozuwa

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has ordered thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the Department of Microbiology, University of Benin (UNIBEN), in Ikpoba Hill axis of Benin City, the state capital. Miss Omozuwa was alleged to have been raped after her head was smashed with a fire extinguisher at a Pentecostal church in Benin, which consequently led to her death. In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said Governor Obaseki has mandated the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other relevant security agencies to fish out the culprits, who perpetuated the dastardly act and bring them to justice. “The governor is deeply saddened by the news of the death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa. UNIBEN student brutally raped, murdered in church

A 100-level Microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Uwaila Omozuwa has been confirmed dead after being raped and beaten inside her local church. The 22-year-old student who goes to read everyday at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin, was attacked with a fire extinguisher by unknown men on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. A family source said Uwaila died on Saturday midnight at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she was rushed to after the attack. He said; “The church security officer had gone to collect the keys to the church from its keeper when he was told that there was someone in the church already. In all these, I wonder if we have tried to find out the genesis and nature of their differences. It is pertinent to know, so that if there is no resolution to their quarrel, we will at least know why they disagreed to agree. Coronavirus: Rights Group takes sensitisation campaign to markets, distribute facemask

The Global Women for Quality and Sustainable Development Initiative (GWSD) in collaboration with Infinite Academy, on Tuesday embarked on sensitisation and enlightenment campaign at Ekiosa Market relocated to Iguodala Primary School on Murtala Mohammed Way, Benin City. The Executive Director, Infinite Academy, Isoken Odemwingie urged traders to adhere strictly to government's directives regarding the precautionary measures to curtail the spread of coronavirus. Odemwingie appealed to the traders both in Bini language and pidgin to comply with all safety measures against the deadly virus. "Use facemask always and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Fani-Kayode to Wigwe: You gave FG N1bn, sack hundreds, shame on you

Critic, Femi Fani-Kayode has berated the Managing Director of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe for sacking hundreds of staff after giving the Federal Government N1 billion to fight Coronavirus. Access Bank had given the Federal Government N1 billion to wage war against Coronavirus. But the bank, few days ago laid off lots of staff, citing economic downturn arising from Coronavirus lockdown as the reason. The bank also cut the salaries of staff of the bank, as part of measures to stay afloat.
