Domestic Violence: Ughelli South And Sapele LGAs Take Lead – Research

Agugu Ughelli South and Sapele Local Government Areas in Delta State have the highest rate of domestic violence and Violence Affecting Women and Girls (VAWG) for the Month of September, according to the Peace map data report from Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger-Delta, PIND. This is part of efforts to support the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the Human Rights Day, Global Women for Quality and Sustainable Development and Gender Justice Joint Venture with support from PIND Foundation undertook 16 Days of Activism to campaign against Gender-Based Violence under the United Nations Women 2019 theme: “Orange the World: Generation, Equality Stands against Rape!”. Sowore: ‘DSS action uncivilised’

Network of  Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (NOCSON) Tuesday condemned alleged invasion of Abuja court by the Department of State Security  (DSS) and the subsequent re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore, convener of “revolution now protest”. NOCSON said the action of DSS was uncivilised and nothing short of inhumanity to man because according to them, “Sowore has been granted bail on several occasions by courts of competent jurisdiction.” Secretary General of the group, Mr. Ogbidi Emmanuel, disclosed this during a public lecture to mark the “World Human Rights Day and Anti-Corruption 2019” held in Benin City, Edo State capital.
